Cub Scout Pack 552

New families

Joining takes about ten minutes

We are glad your family is here. This page covers how the pack works, what your Scout needs, and how to reach us.

Two steps, both online

  1. Create a Scouting accountOne for you, one for your Scout, at accounts.scouting.org/register.
  2. Apply to Pack 552The link below opens our unit automatically, so you will not have to hunt for us.

What it costs. A first year runs roughly $135 in membership fees plus about $50 for a uniform. If cost is a barrier, tell us — quietly, any time. We will sort it out, and no Scout misses out over money.

Dens

Your Scout’s den

Dens are grouped by grade. The whole pack comes together twice a month, and your Scout meets with their den one of those meetings.

  • Tiger

    1st grade

  • Wolf

    2nd grade

  • Bear

    3rd grade

  • Webelos

    4th grade

Some dens still need a second leader. Den leaders are parents who show up, follow a plan we give you, and get help — it is joyful and easy. See how volunteering works.

The rhythm

When we meet

Second and fourth Mondays, 6:30–7:30 PM, September through May.

2nd Monday — whole pack

Everyone together for themes, ceremonies, awards and big activities. Lincoln School Auditorium, 3rd floor. Families are invited and encouraged.

4th Monday — dens meet

Your Scout’s den works on adventures for their rank, at Grace Methodist Church. Parents typically stay for the whole meeting.

October shifts to the third Monday, November and December have one meeting each, and there are no formal meetings June through August.

Gear

What your Scout needs

Scouts have two uniforms. The Class A is the official shirt with neckerchief and slide, worn at pack meetings and ceremonies — buttoned and tucked into khakis, jeans or Scout pants. The Class B is any Scouting t-shirt, for outdoor and casual events. We often provide pack t-shirts and hats.

To start, that is it

  • Uniform shirt, neckerchief and slide
  • The handbook for your Scout’s rank

Ask before you buy

Outgrown uniforms get passed along in the pack all the time. Email us first — someone may have the size you need.

Uniforms come from the Scout Shop— online, or in person at 1902 W. Dickerson Ste 104, Bozeman. Check hours before driving over.

Advancement

How Scouts earn their rank

Every Scout starts with the Bobcat badge — the basics of what Scouting is. After that they work through adventures: the required ones for their rank, plus at least one elective. Finish them all and they earn their rank at the end of the year.

Most of this happens at den meetings. Some is done at home, and parents sign off on their own Scout’s work in the book. You are part of how this works, not a bystander.

Missed a meeting? Nothing is lost. Check the adventure plan, do it at home, and tell your den leader so the belt loop gets ordered. Everything is logged in Scoutbook Plus, where you can see your Scout’s progress any time.

The adventures for each rank

Scouting America publishes what every adventure requires. Pick your Scout’s rank to see the year ahead.

Staying in touch

How we reach you

  • Email — every announcement and sign-up comes from livingstonpack552@gmail.com, and replies reach the pack.
  • WhatsApp — the pack’s community, with Pack Chat for event updates, polls and questions, and Pack Photos and Videos for pictures of our adventures. Adults only. Registered families get the invite by email; ask any leader if you missed it.
  • Scoutbook Plus — advancement: where your Scout’s progress is recorded.

News goes out by email and on WhatsApp at the same time, so either one keeps you current.

Photos. We share pictures of pack events. If you would rather your Scout not appear, just tell us — no explanation needed, and no hard feelings.
